Canvas LMS & LTI 1.3 Integration.
Campus AI integrates with Canvas via LTI 1.3 and Azure AD SSO for seamless course-aware AI experiences. Canvas LTI 1.3 integration is planned and currently in development — here is our roadmap.
Planned Integration
Canvas LTI 1.3 integration is on our roadmap and currently under active development. None of the capabilities listed below are available in the platform today — they represent our planned integration timeline.
Roadmap
- Azure AD SSO authentication via LTI 1.3 launchQ4 2026
- Course context passed through LTI launch for unit-scoped experiencesQ4 2026
- Role-based access (Student, Academic, Admin) mapped from LMS rolesQ4 2026
- Assignment sync (due dates, submissions, grades)Q1 2027
- Gradebook integration (pass-back scores from quizzes, feedback)Q1 2027
- Quiz tool integration (synced quiz attempts and results)Q2 2027
- Discussion forum integration (AI-facilitated discussions)Q2 2027
- Content synchronisation (bidirectional course material sync)Q3 2027
- Analytics dashboard (per-unit usage, engagement, outcomes)Q3 2027
Planned Architecture
The following architecture illustrates how Campus AI will connect with Canvas and your institutional identity provider once integration is implemented.
Planned Architecture
This data flow represents the planned integration design. None of these components are operational in the platform today.
⚠ The integration details below describe the planned architecture and are not reflective of current platform functionality. Canvas LTI 1.3 and Azure AD SSO have not been implemented yet and are on the roadmap above.
Planned Integration Details
Authentication Flow
Once implemented, users will access Campus AI via an LTI 1.3 launch from Canvas. The LTI handshake will authenticate the user through Azure AD/Entra ID SSO with MFA, passing identity, role, and course context to Campus AI. No additional login will be required.
Course Context Passing
Once implemented, the LTI launch will include course identifiers, user roles, and enrolment data. Campus AI will use this to scope AI agents, rubrics, flashcards, and study resources to the correct unit — ensuring students see only their current course materials.
Data Flow
Once implemented, course context and user identity will flow from Canvas through LTI to Campus AI. Student-generated content (chat interactions, quiz attempts, drafts) will be stored within Campus AI's AU-hosted infrastructure. No student data will be written back to Canvas in the initial integration — gradebook pass-back is on the roadmap for Q1 2027.
